NO NEED TO ROLL YOUR OWN ANY MORE AT PARTIES
Plus: Super three-brand sampler from Mike’s Cigars
Los Angeles, April 7 – If there’s an opening, someone will rush to fill it.
So it is with finding a cigar roller for your next party. Instead of
asking your local smokeshop if they know of anyone, you can look up CF Dominicana Cigars and rent your own personal roller.
The concept is separate from the many cigar rolling demonstrations
which often accompany cigar manufacturer’s events in local tobacco
stores. Now, you can obtain a roller for your birthday, anniversary,
divorce, whatever . . . and even arrange to have cigars with
specially-made bands for the occasion.
In fact, CF Dominicana’s “Cigar Catering” program can provide a roller,
cigar “servers” to help your guests light up and specially-designed
bands, usually available to view online in just a few days. Clients who
order cigars from CF Dominicana in the future will have their initials
included on each cigar for free.
CF Dominicana Cigars president Dennis Briganti noted that the novel
concept has already won the company a contract with the Wedding Channel
and that high-profile enthusiasts such as New York Mets catcher Mike
Piazza have hired the company to provide rollers for his recent wedding.
The Cigar Catering division is operating in and around nine major urban
areas so far: Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New
York, Phoenix, Philadelphia and San Francisco with more promised soon.
Mike’s Super Sampler:
You know we love samplers. Buy a few cigars, see if you like them, then
you can shell out for the full box. Of just collect five or ten cigars
at a time and be able to keep a host of brands on hand to match your
mood or that of your friends.
The always-inventive Mike’s Cigars
of Bay Harbour, Florida has come up with one of the best sampler packs
yet devised. Rather than offering a five-pack of one brand, or a
sampler of one each of a dozen different brands, it put together three
different five-packs of brands you must try in a single grouping and
throws in a 50-cigar humidor (with humidifier and hygrometer) and an
elegant ceramic ashtray adorned with a full-color brand logo.
What are the cigars? Three of Altadis’ best:
> Montecristo White Rothschilde (5 x 52) or Toro (6 x 54)
> Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Robusto (5 x 52) or Toro (6 x 54) and
> TTT Trinidad Robusto (5 x 50) or Toro (6 x 50).
You can pick the Robusto Combo or the Toro Combo: 15 cigars, the
humidor and ashtray for $79.95. This deal is like a broken drum . . .
you can’t beat it!
Finished groaning yet? OK, please note that you can’t order this
package by telephone. You must have a credit card on file with Mike’s
(you can do this by phone; the numbers are on their website) and order
via their “Online e-mail form” (it’s on the home page) with your name,
shipping address, daytime telephone and what you want.
The deal is on through Tuesday, April 12, or while their supplies last.
Hammer time:
We mentioned a couple of Opus X auctions on eBay last week, but haven’t followed up until now:
• The Cigar Family Charitable Foundation box of 22 Opus X cigars in 13
different (and mostly special) shapes finally went for $751, one dollar
more than you could have bought it from several different dealers.
Unfortunately, shipping on the item was $50, so the buyer lost money
compared the same box available by mail.
• A unique mixed box of 10 Super Belicosos and 15 Fuente Fuentes drew
no bids at an opening price of $400, but has been re-listed, starting
at $350 and ending Saturday. One bid has been entered at the lowered
starting price.
There are plenty of Opus X boxes up right now, including:
• A sealed box of 29 Robustos (5 1/4 x 50; one bid so far at $450) ending Saturday;
• Another of the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation boxes of 22 (13 bids so far with the highest at $455), ending Sunday;
• A pack of 30 of the Fuente Fuente size (5 5/8 x 46, with three bids so far reaching $406.99), ending Monday and
• A pack of 25 Reserva d’Chateau (7 x 48, with three bids so far reaching $450), ending Monday as well.
A wild item that finished last week was an actual, miniature guillotine
with a very sharp blade to use as a cigar cutter. Made in England, it
stands 14 inches tall and went for $150.43. Oh yes, it has a very
robust padlock to secure the blade!
